Spacious Skies

Spacious Skies, 20×16 pastel on panel

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain,
For purple mountains majesties above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea!

An inscription at the entrance to a burial ground in Okinawa where many American soldiers are buried reads: “We gave our todays in order that you might have your tomorrows.” Today”s Memorial Service reminded me how fortunate we are to live in such a blest country.
